Extra Points: Oregon State
Sure, there've been offensive superstars like Matt Leinart, Mike Williams, Reggie Bush, Dwayne Jarrett and LenDale White, but by and large, defense has defined USC head coach Pete Carroll's tenure at Troy.
That's lead to surprise, concern and disappointment in the Trojans' defensive performances the last two weeks, as USC has allowed Notre Dame and Oregon State to push the defense to its breaking point.
After allowing just 43 points in its first five games, the USC defense has given up 63 in its last two, including 36 points to the Beavers Saturday at the Coliseum.
"We want to keep our opponents' points to less than 36," linebacker Chris Galippo said. "That's a lot for this defense."
The 36 points were the most allowed by USC at the Coliseum since 2005, when the Trojans beat Fresno State 50-42. In fact, Oregon State had only scored more than 36 points against the Trojans once in the 73-game series- a 38-6 Oregon State victory in 1914.
