Connecticut QB holds offers
Mike Farrell
Rivals.com Football Recruiting Though it has largely gone unnoticed up to this point, a dual-threat quarterback from Connecticut has quietly picked up a few offers over the course of the recruiting process.
Tyler Murphy, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback from Wethersfield, Conn., has received offers from UConn, Syracuse, Temple and Fordham over the course of the process. Just three of those four offers are still on the table, but that's because of a decision Murphy made a while back.
"I'm gonna wait 'til the end of the season to see if I get any more (offers) or not," Murphy said. "UConn gave me a deadline and I decided not to commit, so I don't have that one anymore."
Murphy has visited Syracuse and Temple, and he said he enjoyed the trips to both schools.
"Temple has a good coaching staff and the people are great around there. They've got a good environment.
"Syracuse is more up north, but the facilities are pretty good. They've got the (Carrier) Dome, also. They have a good coaching staff and they're in the Big East."
In addition to the three schools that have offers on the table for Murphy, a couple others are apparently interested.
"I've heard from Mississippi State and my coach is talking to West Virginia for me."
Murphy runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, so it's natural to question whether his future is at quarterback or at another position.
"A couple of schools have recruited me to play quarterback and a couple want me as an athlete. I'd rather play quarterback."
Wethersfield has one game remaining in the regular season, and they will not have a spot in the state playoffs.
