Smith leads USC defense to good night
Forget about the past, the thrashing at Oregon and the manhandling against Stanford. Saturday night, none of the mattered.
The Trojan defense, a group that's struggled down the stretch of this football season, put together one of its finest efforts, leading USC to a 28-7 win over UCLA at the Coliseum.
"I think we were completely ourselves tonight," linebacker Chris Galippo said. "Sometimes, you have to learn the hard way. As much as people hold us up to a higher standard, we're young. People forget that sometime. We still have lessons to learn."
But Saturday, young players like Malcolm Smith played like they were already fully educated. Smith had a career-high 15 tackles and made the game's signature defensive play early.
