Murphy talks SU visit
Ryan Murray
CuseConfidential.com Wethersfield (CT) Wethersfield duel-threat quarterback Tyler Murphy has held a Syracuse offer for a few months now and over the weekend he took his official visit.
"Overall my visit was excellent. I felt a good connection with everyone there and they made me feel wanted."
On his visit the 6-foot-2, 190 pound Murphy was hosted by Orange freshman wide receiver Alec Lemon and the two made a quick connection.
"We connected well, he answered all my questions. I felt like I was at home, the way I was treated. Alec is a good person and he will have a good future in football if he keeps working hard."
Lemon was not the only Orange football player to make an impact on the prospect. Greg Paulus sat down with Murphy and the two had a long talk.
"It was a good talk. It was a twenty minute conversation when I got there. We talked about things from football to basketball, to what he has planned for his future. Greg Paulus is a good guy and will be very successful whatever he does."
Talking with current players was important to Murphy, but he was most impressed with two aspects of the school.
"I was most impressed with the different opportunities that Syracuse University provided from an academic stand point," Murphy said. "I like how the program is about to turn things around next year, and become better."
Now after taking his official to Syracuse Murphy talked about his overall view on the football program and it all starts with the coach.
"Overall they have a good leader, Doug Marrone. Like every other coach he wants to win national championship, but he wants his players to learn the right aspects about life through football."
Since he had a solid visit did the two star prospect think about making a weekend commitment to the Orange?
"I was very impressed with the trip and I feel like this could be a place for me. I have other official visits set up and I am planning to commit to a school before January 1st, 2010."
This upcoming week Murphy is heading to Fordham on Thursday and Temple over the weekend,
Dan Conley is handling the recruitment of Murphy for the Orange and the two have a relationship that continues to grow.
"Dan Conley is recruiting me. Our relationship is good. We get closer and closer every time we talk. He loves to talk about his days back in the day."
On Rivals.com Murphy is listed as a duel-threat quarterback, but the Orange plan to use him in other ways.
"They are looking at me as an offensive athlete. They want me mainly at wide receiver, but playing quarterback in the wildcat formation."
