Texas WR talks Tide
Irving (TX) Macarthur star Johnny Haynes has established himself as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the nation for the Class of 2011, accounting for over 800 total yards of offense and 8 touchdowns last fall. Now Haynes has picked up double-digit offers with more rolling in every week.
"I picked up offers from Alabama, Arkansas and Baylor all in the last few weeks so recruiting is still really picking up for me," Haynes said. "So far I would say that the standouts are Alabama, Oklahoma, TCU and Oregon. I've been to Oklahoma and TCU before but I'm really interested in learning more about Alabama. I know it's a great program but I've never seen the campus or seen them play in person."
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound wide out said one thing that made Alabama stand out was their team mentality rather than a focus on superstar players.
"Talking to their coaches, they really stress the important of working hard and coming together as a team rather than playing as an individual and you can see that on the field. They don't have guys drawing attention to themselves, they all play for each other."
"I'm planning on going up for their spring game in April and that should be a great opportunity for me to learn a lot more about Alabama and what it's like to actually be a part of that program."
With plenty of unofficial visits planned for the spring and summer, Haynes said he hopes to learn as much as can about the schools that have offered him before he chooses his final five schools that will receive official visits during the fall.
"I really want to take all my official visits before I make a decision so I will probably make my decision sometime after the season is over this fall. For me, it's all about finding a program that makes me want to be a part of the team. I really don't care what kind of offense they run or whether they throw it to me 20 times a game. I can make things happen no matter what kind of offense I play in. I just want to be a part of a winning team and I want to help that team win."
Haynes boasts 3.0 GPA and a 4.5 forty time.
