Recruiting heating up for Morgan
Recruiting is beginning to heat up for hard hitting safety Jordan Morgan. The prospect from Chandler (Ariz.) is a player that has intrigued college recruiters, which has resulted in Morgan pulling in his first offer (Army), but it probably won't be his last.
"I just spoke to Army today and they said that my offer would be in the mail this week," shares Morgan, who was referring to his conversation on Monday with Black Knights' wide receiver coach, Andy Guyader.
"It was the first time hearing from Army. They looked at my film and called my dad who is the head coach at my high school team. They told him that they really liked your son and we are going to offer him. I was shocked because I hadn't heard from them until then. I spoke to the Coach Guyader today and he said that he sat down with Coach Ellerson and they really liked my film. He said that they feel that I could play at six different positions in their system."
Morgan, who places a high degree of importance on academics, has a core GPA of the 3.5 and recently took his SAT's in March.
He also expressed how grateful he was to pick up his first football offer. "I feel relieved," declares the prospect from Arizona. "The recruiting process is fun, but can be also be stressful. I am glad I got the Army offer before summer time.
I have done research on them yesterday. They have a whole new coaching staff and have won more than before. Coach Ellerson is turning the program around and getting back to be national competitors again.
And playing at Michie Stadium is a great place to play and the campus overlooking the Hudson River is awesome."
As Morgan completes his summer tour of camps, combines and junior days at the various colleges, this stock will most likely continue to rise. Even now, Morgan claims verbal offers from Nebraska, BYU and Notre Dame.
So where will the summer take Morgan? "I'm planning on attending the Stanford's Junior Day on May 14th & 15th, plus the Nike Workout Day will be at Stanford as well," states Morgan. "June 12th I will be at the Oregon State camp and I think I will be coming to BYU's Junior Day, but because of cost I probably won't be attending Notre Dame's Junior Day."
Through spring and going into the summer, Morgan is working hard at getting bigger and faster. He runs track as well as playing baseball. In track he runs the 100M and 4x100M, along with participating in the long jump.
"I checked in at the Rivals 5-star seminar they had me at 6-foot-0, 192 pounds, but I am now up to 205 right now," shares Morgan, who will be looking for a new school to finish out his senior year.
"I just withdrew from my high school," notes Morgan. "My dad resigned from the head coaching job and it wasn't the best environment for me, so I'm going to finish up my last semester at an online school and transfer to a 5A school."
While at Valley Christian High School, Morgan played safety, quarterback and punted (avg. 44.9 yards) as well.
He is primarily being recruited on the defensive side of the ball and is the type of defender that will come up and lay a hit on ball carriers and receivers.
GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Morgan's recruiting throughout.
