Tight end Mike McFarland can't wait to get here
GAINESVILLE -- When Florida asked Tampa (Fla.) Blake tight end Mike McFarland shortly before national signing day if he would consider grayshirting in 2010, he wasn't offended.
And he didn't get upset.
Assuming the Gator coaching staff probably knew best, McFarland figured he would use the time away from football to get bigger, stronger, faster and, well, better.
The Gators later backed away from the grayshirt idea and McFarland signed with Florida in February. Now, he plans on making the most of the opportunity.
While visiting Florida's Wednesday practice, the 6-foot-6, 240-pounder said he expects to compete for playing time after arriving on campus this summer. In fact, he has every intention of making a "huge impact" in Gainesville.
