Tanner is first DT on the board
Jonathan Ford
BleedTechBlue.com Dirk Tanner left Louisiana Tech this week after his visit ready to commit. His mom and brother told him to sleep on it. He slept on it. What does he feel now? "I feel the same,' he said. "I want to commit, but my mom is at work right and I don't want to do it without talking to her," Tanner added.
Tanner and his family have been through some trying times together and it has brought them all very close. That explains why Tanner wants to play close to his grand parents in Magnolia, Ar.
Not only is the location perfect for Tanner, he loves the coaches at Tech and says he feels like family there. He added this, "I feel like [defensive line] coach [Stan] Eggen is one of the best defensive line coaches you get anywhere."
Also, he said, "at big schools you get lost in the mix. Tech is the perfect size."
Tanner receives two hand written notes a day from Louisiana Tech coaches. He went on to explain that they weren't just short notes hoping he is having a good summer, the Tech coaches are pouring into these letters and letting Dirk get to know them.
Dirk wants to make his decision by the middle of the season, but said it would probably happen sooner. Louisiana Tech is looking to sign six defensive tackles and coach Stan Eggen likes to play five. With the attrition that will happen after this season due to graduation, Dirk said he has the opportunity to play as a freshman but Eggen told him he will have to earn it. He said, "and I plan on it" very emphatically.
Tanner plays with a high motor and doesn't stop until the whistle blows.
Dirk Tanner appears to be well on his way to be the next commit for the Bulldogs.
