The developmental road for many high school stars can be a bumpy one upon entering college football. Just ask William Green.

Arriving at Florida two summers ago following a glittering prep career at Hoover (Ala.) Spain Park in which he earned Parade All-American honors after leading his school to its first appearance in the Class 6A state championship game as a senior, Green found himself submerged on the depth chart at defensive end.

Under-sized for SEC competition at around 215 pounds, Green contributed where he could but mostly was in a learning pattern behind veterans Jermaine Cunningham and Carlos Dunlap. Yet the college football clock ticks quickly and Green, now a true junior, is suddenly in a position of urgency with Cunningham and Dunlap now rookies in NFL training camps.

"I've got to play a bigger role this year," Green said. "I'm a junior this year so that means I have to step up. We lost JC and Los so it's time for me to step up. I have to play a better role as far as playing every down now. I got stronger and bigger and just worked technique really hard all summer - we all did."
