Hoyas primed for Big Dance
March 15, 2011 - Since Sunday, Georgetown's men's basketball program has been inundated with questions regarding its preparation and readiness for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, commonly known as the Big Dance. Those queries make sense, given both the team's play to close out the 2010-2011 season - losing five of their last six contests, including a single BIG EAST Championship game - and last year's Big Dance experience - a disheartening 97-83 loss to Ohio in second (initial) round action.
During the team's selection show fete two days ago, Coach John Thompson III was joined by seniors Chris Wright, Austin Freeman and Julian Vaughn, along with junior Jason Clark and freshman Nate Lubick, in discussing a myriad of topics, most centrally the return of Wright: having broken his hand February 23rd while playing Cincinnati, the Hoyas looked lost in his absence. Medical personnel have cleared him to play going forward.
The Hoyas will need him during Big Dance play, which they start in Chicago, Illinois Thursday night at 9:45p as a 6th seed, facing the winner of Wednesday's VCU/USC contest. Of course that supplies some additional pressure to the Hoyas, knowing with some finality who they face for around only 24 hours beforehand.
