Jordan Payton nearing a decision
Westake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian wide receiver Jordan Payton plans to make his college decision next Tuesday. He will visit Notre Dame this weekend for the Fighting Irish's tilt against USC, and then have all the information he thinks he'll need to make his choice. According to Oaks Christian head football coach Bill Redell, three schools remain in the running.
Should Michigan land Payton, they'll be getting a not only a talented receiver - one who has already been selected to the Army All-American Bowl - but also a very productive one. Though BCS-level talents like Blair Holliday (Duke) and Chris Owusu (Stanford) have come through the Oaks Christian program in recent years, Payton is on pace to shatter every receiving record in the school's books.
That's all the more impressive, given that Oaks Christian has played its backups liberally this season. The Lions have an average margin of victory of 26.7 points, and Payton has hardly seen game action after halftime. A quick look at his skill set makes his productivity easy to understand.
Only one lucky school will have a chance to land Payton, however. His trip to South Bend immediately before coming to a decision has some Michigan fans worried. However, Payton has already seen Ann Arbor, and has scheduled his announcement prior to seeing Notre Dame's campus for the first time. Redell thinks that Michigan still has a good shot with him.
With Michigan's need for wide receivers in the 2012 class, they'll be glad if they can reel in a talent like Payton.
