The recruiting HOT List

It is down to crunch time for Michigan State when it comes to the class of 2012. Scholarships are tight and only a few select prospects are realistic target s for the things slots. SpartanMag.com take a look at the players that are most likely to fill the final few spots in the recruiting class.



  • Tevin Coleman of Oak Forest High School in Illinois

    Rank: #34 RB in nation, #12 player in Illinois

    Main Competition: Illinois, Iowa and Purdue

    Skinny: The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Coleman could play multiple positions on the field at the next level. The Spartans like him as a dynamic athlete type of recruit. He was in East Lansing for the Wisconsin game and said the staff wants him back on campus for an official visit. He has tremendous speed and explosiveness.


  • Demetrious Cox of Jeannette High School in Pennsylvania

    Rank: #14 Safety in nation, #10 player in Pennsylvania

    Main Competition: Pitt, Ohio Stat and Penn State

    Skinny: The 6-foot-1, 192-pound Cox has been on campus 3 times over the last year. I had long speculated this one could be a Penn State vs. Michigan State battle. Have to wonder who would want to touch the Penn State situation right now. With Trenton Robinson's graduating, a high-level safety has a chance to get in the mix early.


  • Jordan Diggs of Island Coast High School in Florida

    Rank: #12 Safety in nation, #37 player in Florida

    Main Competition: Tennessee, Nebraska and South Carolina

    Skinny: Diggs is the brother of former Spartan Jeremy Ware and he was on campus this summer for 5-days getting to know the staff and players. The staff is looking to host him officially in December. His father attended the University of South Carolina as did Ware before transferring to Michigan State.


  • Kisima Jagne of Chandler High School in Arizona

    Rank: #27 DE in nation, #8 player in Arizona

    Main Competition: Oklahoma State and Arizona State

    Skinny: The Spartans do not recruit Arizona often, but they obviously feel the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Jagne is worth the trip. Jagne informed us that the Spartan coaches have been talking with him weekend and he is planning on taking an official visit to Michigan state University after he completes his senior season.


  • Monty Madaris of Archbishop Moeller High School in Ohio

    Rank: #51 WR in nation, #19 player in Ohio

    Main Competition: Florida State

    Skinny: Madaris is a player the staff has been recruiting for close to 2-years. He was offered a scholarship after attending camp at Michigan State back in the summer of 2010. Madaris is a physical wide receiver with sure hands. SpartanMag.com has compared him to current record setting wideout B.J Cunningham.


  • David Perkins of Washington High School in Indiana

    Rank: # 9 ATH in nation, #4 player in Indiana

    Main Competition: LSU, Oregon, Syracuse

    Skinny: Perkins committed to Notre Dame back in the spring and by his own account the Spartans were his #2 choice. He has recently opened things back up and is looking at suitors from all over the country. Perkins has indicated he is now going to wait a while. The big question is will the Spartans have room if he is interested.

  • Adolphus Washington of Cincinnati Taft High School in Ohio

    Rank: #8 DE in nation, #5 player in Ohio

    Main Competition: Ohio State

    Skinny: Washington took an official visit to Michigan State and was very impressed. He returned from East Lansing and said he would decide between MSU and OSU. The Buckeyes have long been viewed as the team to beat Washington doesn't seem to be concerned about the possibility of a coaching change or NCAA sanctions in Columbus


  • Ryan Watson of Good Counsel High School in Maryland

    Rank: #17 DE in nation, #6 player in Maryland

    Main Competition: Pitt, Purdue and Penn State

    Skinny: Watson is one of the more difficult prospects to reach and for that reason his recruitment is tough to read. However, he has said that the Spartans are in his top four. The Penn state situation can only serve to help Michigan States chance here. Watson's versatility of DL would fit well with the scheme the Spartan are running.




    Matt Dorsey's Take:

    I firmly believe that 2 of the above players will end up in Green come signing day. The Spartans really cannot go wrong with any of the above players as they are all viewed as impact level prospects. No matter how you slice it up, adding a couple of the players above would enhance what is already a very good recruiting class.
