Brown, Coman entertain new Ole Miss coach
Beniquez Brown has a clear top two.
His high school teammate, Kivon Coman, is committed to Mississippi State.
However, new Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze made the trip to Florence, Ala., Monday to visit both players, hoping to make up ground and get the talented prospects to Oxford, Miss., next month on an official visit.
From all accounts, Freeze accomplished his goal.
"He came in and said he really wants me to be a part of the Ole Miss family," said Brown, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound athlete ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 14 prospect in Alabama. "I didn't know much about him but my first impression was great. I just liked the talk we had."
Brown continues to list Mississippi State and Tennessee as his top two, but he said he will give Ole Miss a long look on Jan. 27.
"I have my two on top, but Ole Miss is right there," said Brown, who also will visit North Carolina State before making a firm decision. "They're coming hard and knowing I could play early there was great."
Coman, a 6-1, 185-pound safety, committed to Mississippi State on Aug. 29. Still, he entertained Freeze and Ole Miss defensive line coach Chris Kiffin on Monday and liked what he heard.
"He is a very nice man," Coman said. "He's straight-forward. He told me I'd fit in real good for the kind of player they need and what they're trying to build. They want me to come there and play. They gave me an official visit date and I'm going to visit on Jan. 27."
Coman said he remains committed to Mississippi State, but he said the Rebels "have a chance. It has to be a better chance for me."
