The MTSU Game in a Nutshell
Vanderbilt trailed MTSU 64-59 with 9:03 left after Shawn Jones hit a jump shot, and VU coach Kevin Stallings decided to switch to a zone defense after playing man-to-man the entire first 31 minutes. After Festus Ezeli hit a free throw, Ezeli blocked a Jones' shot on the other end, then VU crept closer as Jeffery Taylor hit another free throw.
On MTSU's next trip, Marcos Knight missed a field goal, and Taylor countered with a lay-up to pull VU within one. Ezeli stole a pass headed to the post on the next possession, and although VU couldn't convert on the other end, those three-straight trips in which VU held the Blue Raiders scoreless helped start turn the momentum.
The game went back-and-forth from there, and was died when LaRon Dendy hit a free throw to tie the game with 1:57 left. But Jenkins hit a back-door lay-up, VU's Lance Goulbourne as a result of Dai-Jon Parker disrupting MTSU's perimeter offense, and Ezeli buried a pair of free throws to put Vandy up 80-76.
