Energy high, execution crisp during first practice in full pads
EAST LANSING - Mark Dantonio was pleased with the energy and focus he saw from his football team on Wednesday as Michigan State practiced in full pads for the first time during training camp.
"Guys made plays on both sides of the ball, I thought," Dantonio said. " Guys looked crisp. There was a lot of hitting out there, very active. We will look for things on film, try and get better and move forward. It is important for us to carry our pads again, be active out on the football field, be live to some extent. We obviously can't go live all of the time, but we went live during certain periods today."
While Dantonio and his staff will not make decisions on red shirts for a couple of weeks, the sixth-year head coach indicated that several first-year players have made an impression through five practices.
Demetrious Cox, Jamal Lyles, Riley Bullough, Monty Madaris, and MacGarrett Kings were among the rookies who have impressed the sixth-year Spartan head coach.
