Second half surge lifts Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss., - No. 25 Mississippi State and archrival Ole Miss appeared to be headed for a four quarter fight as each team exited the field tied at 17 for halftime.
But the Rebels responded with 24 unanswered points to start the second half and snapped a three-game losing skid in the Egg Bowl with a 41-24 win.
"Give them credit, their kids played hard and made a lot of plays when they needed to make big plays," said MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "We had a lot of critical errors, especially in the red zone. Three opportunities in the first half made it to three points. You obviously cannot make those mistakes on the road in the SEC."
The win propelled Ole Miss to 6-6 on the year and 3-5 in conference play. It also earned the Rebels bowl eligibility for the first time since 2009 in Hugh Freeze's first year on the sideline.
