Bell delivers best when team needed it most
MINNEAPOLIS - With Andrew Maxwell nursing an undisclosed shoulder injury to his throwing arm and Michigan State needing a victory to extend it season, Le'Veon Bell could not have picked a better time for a career game than Saturday's Big Ten finale at Minnesota.
Bell's 35 carries for 266 yards and a touchdown propelled the Spartans to a 26-10 victory over the Golden Gophers.
"Le'Veon Bell played very well," said Spartan football coach Mark Dantonio. "We ran the football very, very efficiently, probably the best we have all season. So credit Le'Veon and the offensive line there."
Michigan State reached the prerequisite six wins for bowl eligibility with the road victory. Becoming bowl eligible was a source of motivation for Bell.
"We couldn't lose today," said Bell. "Coach D has been in a bowl every year since he's been here so we definitely had to keep that going. We didn't want to be the first team not to do it. We did everything in our power to go out and get that win."
