Could Marcus Ball qualify?
On February 2, 2005, Seminoles fans were jumping for joy when Florida State pulled off one of the strongest finishes in college football recruiting history. Over a 24 hour period, FSU's class ranking skyrocketed from the mid-20's all the way up to No. 2 on the night of national signing day. Some of that excitement was diminished when the dust settled a few months later. Five of those signees, or 22 percent of the class, fell short of the NCAA's initial eligibility requirements and did not enroll at FSU last year.
To make that didn't happen again with the most recent class, the Seminole coaching staff made a concerted effort to sign fewer recruits that had an uphill battle in the classroom. Technically, no signees still in high school or prep school are qualified until they get through the Clearinghouse and FSU's admissions. Nevertheless, early indications are that a higher percentage of signees from the 2006 will be qualified in time for the fall semester.
