Every year it seems like Baylor opens up fall camp wondering who will be the starting quarterback. In some years it wasn't just one quarterback vying for the spot.
There was the three-headed King/Karas/Bell battle, then Bell vs. Parks, and now there is but one.
There will not be any controversy surrounding the Baylor starting job at least heading into fall camp in 2006. Upon arriving at Baylor coaches Lee Hays and Wes Phillips saw all they needed in Shawn Bell and Terrance Parks was moved to inside receiver.
Behind Bell is redshirt freshman Blake Szymanski, who is followed by walk-ons Jason Lovvorn, Chandler Dane, and Ryan Roberts, and Freshmen Tyler Beatty and Brad Taylor.

Bell may not be the biggest, most athletic, or strongest, but he has shown he can get it done. Over the years his arm strength and has been called into question at times for playing it safe at times but he does seem to have just enough to get the job done.
Baylor's new offense may just be the best thing for Bell who has been known to call his own plays at times and is a coach on the field. His smarts have helped him post post a 5-4 record as a starter with two of those loses coming in overtime at Texas A&M and Oklahoma. win at Iowa St.
