Alterraun Verner is a very special freshman
A year ago at this at this time Bruin freshman Alterraun Verner was a senior at Lakewood (Calif.) Mayfair was ranked two-star player. He worked very hard over the summer on his speed and ended being a three-star player who saw his stock soar due to a great senior season.
Fast forward a year and Verner, who by the way is the youngest player in the Pac 10, came up huge causing two turnovers that helped UCLA win their opener against Utah 31-10.
Verner picked off a pass and ran it back to the house giving the Bruins a 14-7 lead that they never relinquished.
"My first game was a great learning experience," Verner said. "The couple of big plays I made were great because they helped build my confidence a little bit.
"I still made mistakes that accounts for it being my first game. I was in the film room with Coach DeWayne Walker and he introduced me to those mistakes and stuff so I have been working hard on improving from those mistakes and hopefully this next game it will be a lot better.
