Stafford prepares for UAB

UGASports.com Georgia completed their final practice Thursday before their game against UAB.
Freshman quarterback Matthew Stafford will make his first career start against the Blazers in Sanford Stadium and Georgia coach Mark Richt thinks he is ready for the challenge.
"I think he has done well with the first team and you cannot fake that," said Richt. "I do not see any nerves in him yet, but we may seem some before Saturday. I have not seen him get really nervous and I probably get more nervous for him than he does."
Stafford will be making the first start for a true freshman since Quincy Carter started in 1998 against Kent State. The Bulldogs won 56-3 in Sanford Stadium to open that season.
With UAB playing a highly ranked Oklahoma team close early this season losing 24-17, Stafford thinks he will have little time to worry about first start jitters.
"They have a lot of guys on that team that could play here," said Stafford. "The have a whole bunch of talent on their team and I know for a fact that no one on our team is thinking this is any kind of a pusher over game. They are coming into our house hungry and we have to be prepared."
