Venables, Wright address secondary shuffle
Following the Sooners' loss to Oregon last weekend, the defensive breakdowns in the OU secondary took a backseat to the botched officiating. But inside the Barry Swizter Center, the wheels were in motion to revamp the Sooner secondary.
Oklahoma made a key switch in the secondary by moving Reggie Smith from field corner to boundary corner against Oregon. And just when everyone was getting used to that change, Bobby Jack Wright, Brent Venables and Bob Stoops were coming up with a completely different plan.
"We kicked it around all week after the Oregon game. We knocked it around on Sunday and Monday a little bit and we just finally decided this was our best four guys," said Wright.
And the criticism was soon to follow, even from yours truly. How could Oklahoma not take Keenan Clayton's inexperience into account at the start of the season?
How could they overlook Marcus Walker as one of the best cover corners in the program in favor of a converted running back?
