Peterson wants to shine in return role
Adrian Peterson didn't make an immediate splash when he took over kick return duties against Oregon three weeks ago. But that doesn't mean he can't be a major special team factor against Texas on Saturday.
Oklahoma special teams coordinator Chris Wilson indicated on Wednesday that Peterson will be involved in the punt return team after taking the game off against Middle Tennessee two weeks ago.
"He gives us an added weapon. When you've got a guy like Adrian Peterson back there, he's explosive, he does a great job of fielding the football which is extremely important. It makes a lot better in the backend," Wilson said.
Barry Sanders used kickoff returns to put himself into the national spotlight earlier in his college career. It also helped him work his way toward a Heisman Trophy in 1988.
Peterson could use the same script to win over Heisman Trophy voters in 2006.
