Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) ranked tenth in the nation return home Saturday evening in Sanford Stadium to face the #13 ranked Tennessee Volunteers (4-1). Under head coach, Mark Richt Georgia is 4-1 against the Volunteer with their only loss coming in Athens during the 2004 season when Georgia fell 19-14. The Bulldogs have won five of the last six meetings over the Volunteers, but the Tennessee holds the series edge 18-12-2 all-time.
Saturday night's matchup with be the 13th time the two teams have both been ranked in the top 25 and the fifth time in a row they have both been ranked. Georgia will try to go 6-0 for the third time under coach Richt if they can beat Tennessee.
Tereshinski ready to start
Senior quarterback Joe Tereshinski will make his third start of the season for the Bulldogs against the Volunteers. Tereshinski missed the last three games after injuring his ankle in the first series of the South Carolina game. Georgia will start their third different quarterback in as many games Saturday night.
Freshman quarterback Matthew Stafford will play against the Volunteers at some point during the game. The Georgia coaching staff will decide during the game when to sub Stafford in.
Georgia has only managed 14 points in their last two games and has not scored in the first half of a game since the UAB game.
Big loss for Dawgs
Junior kicker Brandon Coutu will miss the rest of the 2006 season after injuring his leg during practice Thursday. Junior kicker Andy Bailey will take over for Coutu. Bailey last attempted a field goal during the 2004 season.
Injury update
Senior offensive tackle Michael Turner will play against the Volunteers making his first appearance since the South Carolina. Turner is battling an ankle injury.
Team Captains
The captains for the Tennessee game for Georgia are senior center Nick Jones, senior defensive end Quentin Moses, junior Thomas Brown, and senior linebacker Tony Taylor.
The Honorary captain is former defensive guard Eddie Weaver Jr. (1978-81) who was a member of the 1980 National Championship team and a two-time All-SEC selection.
