It's safe to say Buster Davis had a pretty productive week. In addition to his classes and football practices and film study sessions and media interviews, Florida State's defensive captain made the cut for two more major national awards.
Davis was named a semifinalist on Thursday for the Bednarik Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive player. That came on the heels of being named either a semifinalist or quarterfinalist for the Butkus (top linebacker), Lombardi (top lineman or linebacker) and Lott (top defensive player) awards.
Perhaps as a gesture of thanks -- or maybe as a bribe for continued protection -- Davis even found a little time on Thursday to take care of some grocery shopping on behalf of the defensive linemen who play in front of him and take on opposing blockers.
"I gave those guys brownies today," Davis said. "If they can keep those linemen off me, I can take care of the rest."
In a bizarre stroke of irony, the injuries that sidelined four of FSU's top six linebackers have actually opened the door for Davis to lay claim to some post-season hardware.
