The Walking Wounded
Neither head coaches of the football teams from Arizona State and Washington State were in very convivial moods this week. One look at the mile-long injury lists from both schools will do that to a head coach. The Cougars have been beset by a particularly formidable amount of injuries and up until mid-October, only Stanford could challenge WSU as the most injured team in the league - but Stanford's hit early on and tailed off [with the exception of the loss of Trent Edwards] whereas the Cougars' injuries have occurred every week of the season. Coming up on the outside of this horse race was Arizona State. The Sun Devils had the usual amount of early-season injuries but have also gradually lost starters and prime contributors along the way - the latest being offensive lineman Stephen Berg two weeks ago and running back Ryan Torain last week [although Torain is expected to play against Wazzu].
