NU awaits OU or Texas for Big 12 title game
Nebraska will finally learn today who its opponent will be in the Big 12 Conference championship game on Dec. 2 in Kansas City.
Oklahoma can clinch the South Division title and punch its ticket to Kansas City with a victory this afternoon at Oklahoma State. An OSU win would send Texas to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Huskers. The Longhorns could've clinched the South Division title on Friday against Texas A&M, but the Aggies pulled off a 12-7 upset to open the door for Oklahoma.
Nebraska players and coaches say they really have no preference for an opponent in the conference championship game - they're just happy to be representing the North Division.
"We talked about it a little bit and it would be nice to play Texas a second time, but ultimately it doesn't really matter who we play," NU place kicker Jordan Congdon said. "Any game is huge against a Big 12 South team. It really doesn't matter to us as long as we go out there and do our thing because it just comes down to us."
Nebraska, who finished the regular season 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the Big 12, suffered its only home loss in 2006 at the hands of Texas on Oct. 21. A field goal in the last minute of the game gave the Longhorns a hard-fought 22-20 victory over the Huskers.
