Saban calls on McNeil
During the coaching search Alabama lost ground on Rivals100 safety Michael McNeil but yesterday new Tide skipper Nick Saban and two assistants called the Mobile standout. McNeil, 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, indicated the talk went good and he was impressed with the new coach.
"Coach Saban called me yesterday and we talked for a good while. He wanted me to know that he was very interested in me and that I was a top priority for his staff. He went over a lot of his past history and just caught me up to date on his philosophy and how they try to do things. I was very impressed and it helps because he's a defensive guy and his specialty is the secondary," McNeil said. "He told me his goal every year is to have the nation's top secondary and that he wanted me to come in and help achieve that goal. I was impressed by his attitude and the places he's been. I know he's a winner and I want to play for that kind of coach.
