On a scale of 1-10, Kinne gives visit an 11
If Gilmer quarterback G.J. Kinne needed to be reminded this weekend about the reasons for his December commitment to the Texas Longhorns, he got it early Saturday morning.
Make that very early on Saturday morning.
"We came in late on Friday because I had a basketball game that night," Kinne said. "We didn't get into Austin until 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning, but Coach (Ken) Rucker was up and waiting for me when we got there. That made me feel really good that he was there waiting for me to arrive."
From that moment on, Kinne said the trip to the 40 Acres was everything he had hoped it would be.
"We got up on Saturday morning and had breakfast and toured the facilities," Kinne said. "We had a chance to talk with Maddog (Jeff Madden) and then we went over to Jester dorms and I got to talk with Curtis (Brown) and some of the other players. After that my mom and I just sort of walked around the campus. We stopped and bought some Texas stuff while we were out."
Kinne was hosted by Texas linebacker Scott Derry, although he reported that he spent just as much time with wide receiver Jordan Shipley and defensive tackle Derek Lokey.
"On a scale of 1-10, the visit was an 11," Kinne said. "Today we woke up and met with the coaches. They told me everything that I needed to know and they were very truthful. In talking to the players, the one thing that they all told me was that Coach (Mack) Brown and Coach (Greg) Davis had never told them anything that wasn't true since they had been there. They've always been honest with them."
