Academic edge leads Johnson to Irish
It's common for top prospects to talk about the importance of academics.
It's rare for them to actually mean it. Count Ethan Johnson among the exceptions.
The 6-foot-4, 266-pound defensive end from Portland, Ore., committed to Notre Dame late last month, making his college choice shortly after departing from the Irish summer camp for vacation. It turns out that the four-star prospect's choice had more to do with graduation rates than playing time. Johnson is as interested in learning from the Notre Dame business school as he is the Irish coaching staff, if not more.
"Before I went to camp I decided that if I liked Notre Dame, if I liked the campus, the coaches, everything, that I would commit," Johnson said. "They had everything I wanted school-wise.
