Anderson hopes experience pays off
Garrett Anderson experienced the agony and the ecstasy of major college football as a true freshman last season.
When Anderson signed with South Carolina in 2006 out of Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., he believed redshirting his first year was the best path.
But Steve Spurrier and offensive line coach John Hunt disagreed. A shortage of capable linemen forced them to give Anderson a long look in fall camp.
When the offensive line struggled in the first two games of the season, Anderson found himself thrust into the starting lineup at right guard for the Wofford game. He remained there for four games before the coaching staff decided to go with more experienced players down the stretch.
