Future Spartans Shine in East-West All-Star Game
EAST LANSING - Led by a pair of Michigan State defensive-line recruits, the West defeated the East 9-7 in a defensive struggle in the annual Michigan East-West All Star Football Game at Spartan Stadium.
With Ryan Wheat of Carman-Ainsworth and Kevin Pickleman of Marshall teaming up with Michigan recruit Ryan VanBergen along the defensive line, the West came into the game looking for its defensive line to lead the way and that is exactly what happened.
Wheat and Pickleman gave sun-drenched Spartan fans plenty to look forward to as the pair created plenty of havoc both against the run and as pass rushers. Wheat consistently bulled his way up the middle and collapsed the pocket while Pickleman came hard from a tackle spot and also saw action on offense in the "jumbo" package that featured Pickleman and VanBergen as lead blockers lined up as dual-fullbacks.
