Linemen square off in one-on-ones
With pads still hanging neatly in the locker room, this is the closest thing to football during the opening days of practice:
The offensive line sets up opposite the defensive line, and the ball is snapped. One defender rushes, one blocker tries to contain him, and everyone else watches. They spar until one of them hits the turf or a coach blows the whistle.
The Trojans are dressed only in a helmet, jersey and shorts, but, "There's no walk-throughs around here," senior tight end Dale Thompson said of the one-on-one drills. "It's full-go pretty much."
Thompson starred in Tuesday's exercises, as teammates let forth a boisterous, "Ohhhh!" when he knocked freshman defensive end Everson Griffen to the ground.
