Make room for the big man
Johnson contributing quickly
Less than 40 days ago, the name "Jake Johnson" was unheard of amongst players on the Red Raider football team. Now, in the middle of fall camp, there's not one person with a helmet on has not become familiar with number 79.
Without even opening his mouth, the quiet mannered 6-foot-7, 350-pound offensive lineman immediately earns the respect of those around him just by the look of his monstrous frame.
"When first came in," recalled sophomore offensive right guard Brandon Carter, "I was like 'wow, this guy's big'."
Having the size to be able to hold his own standing next to the other Red Raider big boys was one thing, but to be able to learn head coach Mike Leach's offensive passing scheme in just one month before fall camp would be a whole other issue.
"He's come in and learned the system well," confirmed junior starting right tackle, Rylan Reed. "He's been doing well in practice. I've been really impressed."
