UCLA prevails over BYU
The good news is the Bruins won a football game when they weren't at their best. The UCLA offense in far contrast from last game had a paltry 236 total yard while BYU almost doubled UCLA's offensive output by garnering 435 total offensive yards and for moment it appeared that the Cougars may steal one from Bruins.
This game was very reminiscent of many of UCLA's losses a year ago, but this time instead of leaving a victory on the playing field this Bruin team finished the game and won.
If this was last season the Bruins may have folded, but they didn't. Instead they showed the grit it takes to win a hard fought football game and overcome an outstanding performance by Cougar quarterback Max Hall.
Hall threw for 391 yards and two touchdowns, both touchdowns came in a disastrous third quarter that saw UCLA's 20-3 lead shrink to 20-17.
BYU was aided by a horrendous non-call. It was obvious that the Cougars were holding or committed a PI. You could take your poison on that one. Either way it should have been a first down for UCLA instead the non-call allowed the Cougars to keep possession on a Ben Olson interception.
