Capers shines in first start
MORGANTOWN-- When the West Virginia coaching staff approached Selvish Capers about switching from tight end to offensive tackle in the off-season, the junior reluctantly agreed to the move despite harboring doubts.
On Saturday, Capers was rewarded for his team-first attitude when he received the first start of his college career at right tackle against Mississippi State.
The happy-go-lucky Capers, a former all-state tight end at New Orleans' St. Augustine High School, did not learn that he was officially getting the nod over Jake Figner until Friday night.
"Jake's been the starter at right tackle, but we've been going at it and competing all season in practice," said a relieved Capers after the game. "I basically knew all week because the coaching staff had talked about the possibility of me starting, but in the back of my mind, I knew things could always change."
