Backups answer call against Golden Eagles
After rolling for three quick touchdowns early in the second quarter, Auburn began wholesale substitutions on both offense and defense.
Perhaps the backup making the biggest splash against Tennessee Tech Saturday was quarterback Blake Field.
The junior completed 6-of-11 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in his first significant action since he started for a sick Brandon Cox against Western Kentucky in 2005.
"(Field) made a couple of nice throws," said AU offensive coordinator Al Borges. "He was flushed on a third down and he hit a guy for a real nice play. On the touchdown pass, he just drilled it in there."
