Fleming closing in on more offers?
Will Fleming of Akron Hoban High School is one of the top uncommitted prospects in Ohio for the class of 2008. Rivals.com rated him as a 3-star recruit and teh #49 player in Ohio for thr class of 2008. SpartanMag.com spoke with the 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect earlier today and has the latest on his recruitment.
Fleming currently has four offers on the table, Akron, Boise State, Hawaii and Miami of Ohio. Three Big Ten teams have been in frequent contact with him the past few weeks, Michigan State, Iowa and Illinois. We spoke with Fleming about the Spartans level of interest.
"Coach Narduzzi usually calls every week, Fleming said. "He came to one of my basketball practices a few weeks ago. He talked about setting up a visit t Michigan State later this month."
Though he is listed as a safety prospects in the Rivals.com database, many teams are projecting Fleming as a linebacker at the next level. His ability to read plays and physical nature lends itself well to that spot.
Fleming camped at Michigan State this summer and was able to workout out extensively with Michigan State linebacker's Coach Mike Tressel. It was obvious based on SpartanMag.com assessment that Fleming was a player the staff was very interested in.
Fleming forwarded his early season game film to Michigan State as well as several other schools back in October. That film, which included a match-up with national ranked Cardinal Mooney High School, improved his standing with several schools. He plans on sending the rest of his senior film to those schools this week.
As far as where he stands in his recruitment, Fleming still seemed very open.
'I took a visit to Akron and I also took one to Boise State. I liked both schools. I had a good time and was impressed with what I saw. I will probably wait and see what the other schools do before I make my decision."
Michigan State is still looking to add several linebacker prospects to the class of 2008. With as many as 10 scholarships remaining for the class of 2008, it is very possible that the Spartans will take at least 3 more players who could end up at that position.
Many have assumed that Fleming will end up playing for Akron due to his dad being on the defensive coordinator there, but Fleming has remained very open to the entire recruiting process.
"I'm real comfortable with the coaches and the whole situation over there, but I also want to explore my options and see what is out there," he said.
SpartanMag.ocm will continue to keep in-touch with Fleming in the coming weeks. The Spartan have several linebacker prospects that they are actively recruiting and it could come down to a case of scholarship numbers. Sometimes the last players added to a class end up being some of the best, it is not out of the question that could be the case for whatever school Fleming ends up attending.
