Close competition at cornerback
When Aairon Savage moved from safety to cornerback, many assumed the junior, who has started 15 games the last two seasons, would quickly step into a starting position.
But Walter McFadden had other ideas.
After a couple of years as a backup, McFadden is set on winning the starting cornerback position opposite returning starter Jerraud Powers.
"(The starting job) is very important," said McFadden. "If I win it, it will boost my confidence even more. Even if I don't win it, I'm going to keep practicing hard and keep trying to get that starting spot.
"It's a great competition. He's a great player. We're both going hard each and every practice."
