Blake set to take second trip to Texas
From the moment that Austin (Texas) High wide receiver Emory Blake left the Texas campus back in February following the school's first Junior Day, there's been a little uncertainty about exactly where the young playmaker fits into the grand scheme of Mack Brown's recruiting plans.
Is there room for another wide receiver in the class after the school landed the commitment of Aldine Eisenhower's Greg Timmons? Does the staff simply want to take more time in evaluating Blake?
For two months there have been more questions than answers, but that could change on Wednesday.
"Yeah, I'm actually going tomorrow," Blake said on Tuesday night. "My dad can't make it on Saturday, so we're going to visit Texas tomorrow."
After receiving offers from the likes of Oregon, Arizona and Tech Tech, Blake is hoping for a more focused picture after the visit.
"I honestly don't know what they think of me," Blake said. "They still send me stuff. Coach (Greg) Davis still, but I haven't talked to him or Coach Brown. I don't know if anything has changed (since February). I definitely want to know what they think of me. If they don't have room, I'd like to know."
While the 6-1, 199-pound four-star prospect is still in the beginning stages of his recruitment, he's been opening eyes during the track season with some impressive times in the sprints.
"I ran a 10.6 (100 meters)," Blake said with a laugh when told that his times had surprised more than a few observers. "When I'm out on the field I know that nobody is going to catch me, but I don't always run as fast as I can because I don't need to. Everyone watches my film and they think I'm slow, but I'm taking long strides. I telling everyone that I can ran."
