Scrimmage Insider: Defense rules the day

Florida State has scheduled fireworks for the evening of the April 12th Garnet and Gold game. If the annual spring game is anything like Saturday's scrimmage, those may be the only fireworks the fans see, at least on offense.
For the first time this spring, the offense and defense matched up in a full-fledged scrimmage complete with the down and distance being kept by officials. But the day belonged to the defense. Outside of a 41-yard touchdown completion from D'Vontrey Richardson to Rod Owens against the second team defense, and one score in red-zone drills, the offense was kept off the scoreboard.
"I'm glad to see the defense doing good," head coach Bobby Bowden said after the scrimmage. "You are not going to win if you can't play defense. They (the defense) usually dominate the first of spring then the offense begins to put things together, and I imagine that will happen before the spring is over... I thought the defense really progressed today - they did a good job today."
