Practice Insider: Offense Wins Turnover Thursday
Seasoned Trojan fans know that each week the coaching staff designates one day to focus on forcing turnovers. This spring, the University of Southern California football team has been preaching "Turnover Thursdays," complete with Ken Norton Jr. talking trash specifically to Allen Bradford, and the offensive as a whole wilting to the defense's manic attention to getting the ball. Typically, freshmen quarterbacks are the wounded gazelles and the senior linebackers are the lions, but not this Thursday.
"Coach declared it a win for us at the end," redshirt freshman Aaron Corp said. "It's the first time we've got it in three weeks.
"It's about time."
While the intensity of practice has been steadily rising since the first day of full-pads, it spiked today with the offense thwarting the defense's best efforts.
"This is a day for us to get after the football, and that makes it so hard on the offense because the defensive guys are hammering away at the football," head coach Pete Carroll said after practice. "So the (offensive) guys have to have tremendous poise to be beatin' on all day."
