OnTheBluff.com The Hartford Courant has named Duquesne recruit B.J. Monteiro Connecticut State Player of the Year. Monterio gave Duquesne a verbal commitment during the season and should be signing officially sometime in the near future. Monterio was also recruited by UNLV, Penn State, Saint Joseph's and Fordham.
Monteiro is a pure scorer and seems to be a perfect fit for Duquesne uptempo high scoring system. He holds the record as Crosby-Waterbury's career scoring leader with 1,833 points. During his senior season he averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks. In three years as a starter, Monteiro averaged 23.7 points a game.
Monteiro isn't just a scorer he is also a winner. He led No. 3 seed Crosby (26-1) to the Connecticut State Class LL title with an 82-79 victory over No. 5 Trinity Catholic-Stamford (24-4) at Gampel Pavilion. He also led Crosby to 19-1 regular season record and the NVL regular season championship.
