Spartans after massive Ohio OL
It is a great year for talent in Ohio, and Spartan Head Coach Mark Dantonio and his staff are actively recruiting many of the top players there. One of the prospects that is firmly on the Michigan State radar is 6-foot-6, 295-pound Henry Conway of Shaker Heights High School. Spartanmag.com spoke with this massive prospect for the class of 2009, and he gave us the latest on his recruitment and his plans for the upcoming months.
Michigan State is looking to add a few key offensive line prospects to the class of 2009. With a limited amount of scholarships to give this year, the staff is being very selective. The Spartans are in the process of evaluating several linemen and would like to host them on campus for a day of camp. Conway is on the shortlist of players that the staff hopes to have in East Lansing this summer.
Conway already has 3 scholarships offers on the table and many of the Big Ten's best are actively recruiting him.
"I have scholarships from Cincinnati, Indiana and Bowling Green," he said. "Lots of schools have stopped by my high school. Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Louisville have all been in."
Spartan Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi was recently at Shaker Heights High School and serves as the primary recruiter of Conway for the Green and White.
"Coach Narduzzi told me that they really want to have me come up there for a day of camp. I have never been to Michigan State."
Conway indicated that he has not set up his summer camp plans, but there is a good chance he will be in East Lansing at some point.
"I want to go on the Ted Ginn Bus Tour," he said. "Hopefully I will go on that and that will give me a chance to see a lot of schools. I also plan on going to the Nike Camp at Ohio State and the Midwest Elite Combine that will be at the Brown's Stadium."
Conway stated that as of right now he is not in a hurry to make a decision.
"I think I am going to wait until after my senior year to make my choice. That way I can take a few visits. I really don't have a favorite at this point. I grew up an Ohio State and my parents like Florida, but I am going to consider all the teams that have offered me."
One of the important factors for Conway in his recruitment is the relationship he develops with his position Coach and the opportunity to see the field.
"My dream is to play in the NFL and I am willing to work as hard as possible to achieve that. I want to go to a school that will help me reach my goal. I just want an opportunity to show coaches how committed I am and how hard I am willing to work."
Conway is already working hard to improve his stock prior to hitting the camp circuit. He is participating in track for Shaker Heights and has already thrown the shot 50 feet. He has also been spending a lot of time in the weight room working on getting bigger and stronger. He currently has a squat of 500-pounds and has clocked a 40-yard dash time of 4.95 seconds.
