Croom excited about hosting Auburn
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have the opportunity to start the season over so to speak.
After falling to Louisiana Tech in its opening game, the Bulldogs bounced back against Southeastern Louisiana and now have a chance to start conference play on a good note by hosting the Auburn Tigers Saturday.
"We're very excited to host them here at home," said MSU head coach Sylvester Croom. "Hosting our first SEC game of the year and having a chance to play it at home, we're very excited about that. We're expecting a great crowd and our players are looking forward to it."
Croom admitted it has been more difficult preparing for the Tigers with the addition to new coordinators Tony Franklin and Paul Rhoads. Franklin takes over as offensive coordinator after spending last season at Troy while Rhodes is the defensive coordinator leaving at serving seven-year tenure at Pittsburgh.
"It's been more of a challenge for us this year because they have two new coordinators," Croom said. "So we've had to go back and look at what the coordinators did at their previous institutions and also what they have done in the first two games. That can be a little tricky because you don't know necessarily why they did things at the previous institution. It could have been because of the teams they were playing or the personnel they had on those particular teams. So you really have to rely on what they've done in the first two games but at the same time know they haven't delved very deep in their repertoire of things they could do against you."
Croom feels State can alleviate some of his concerns about Auburn by executing their game plan and playing to their own strengths.
