A published report in September claimed that Georgia Military College linebacker Tony Straughter had committed to South Carolina the weekend of the Gamecocks' 23-13 victory over Wofford.

Straughter, a sophomore with three years to play two seasons, amended that verdict recently when he told WVSports.com "it's a soft verbal.

"It was kind of blown out of proportion because I am highly interested in West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ole Miss," said Straughter prior to a GMC game at Troy (jayvees). ". . . . I'm really looking forward to taking a visit to West Virginia. Right now they are my No. 1."
