Coaches expect Johnson to bounce back
University of Tulsa quarterback David Johnson waited four years for his shot at leading the Golden Hurricane offense, and now he is preparing for his final game in a Tulsa uniform. While Johnson is coming off the worst performance of his short career, TU coaches believe he is focused and ready to bounce back tomorrow night in the GMAC Bowl.
"He's looking great and really throwing the ball well," said TU head coach Todd Graham last week.
Johnson led Tulsa to an 8-0 start and a No. 19 ranking in the AP poll. However, the Hurricane struggled down the stretch, capped by a 27-24 upset loss to East Carolina in the Conference USA Championship game.
Against ECU, Johnson threw five interceptions and a lost a fumble.
"He had a rough day, but David Johnson is our guy," said Tulsa offensive coordinator Herb Hand. "We won 10 games with him and probably couldn't do that without him. We expect him to bounce back in the bowl game....
