Ohio DB looking at new school
Youngstown (OH) Ursuline cornerback Dale Peterman has had a couple leaders during the process like South Carolina and Michigan, now a new school has entered the mix. Syracuse University is making a late push for the defensive back.
"Syracuse did offer me a scholarship. Coach Shafer is recruiting me," Peterman said. "I will definitely be considering [the Syracuse offer] it."
Peterman, 5-foot-11, 155 pounds recently sat down with new Orange defensive coordinator Scott Shafer and he talked to CuseConfidential about the meeting.
"It went real good because he stayed and watched me play basketball. We did not have school on Martin Luther King day, but he still came by the school and he watched my basketball practice and met with me and everything. That was real cool and he made a real big impression on me."
The past few years the Orange have been down, but Peterman sees that changing in the future. The new coaches at Syracuse have Peterman thinking that way.
"I know they have been down these past couple of years, but I think there is a new coaching staff and I feel really comfortable with Coach Shafer. I think that this coaching staff can turn things around."
Now that Peterman and Shafer had a nice meeting with each other it has led to a visit that will be taken this week. On this visit there is a possibility of Peterman leaving Syracuse as a new member f the Syracuse football team.
"I think I could see myself playing there. I will have to see how the visit goes. If it goes real good I think I might end all this recruitment and call it," Peterman stated. "It really depends on how I feel for it and if I can see myself being there for the next four years. I think the chance are good chances."
Going on this visit will be important for Peterman because the only coach he has met is Shafer, now he wants to meet everybody else. Other than meeting the coaches Peterman will look to see how comfortable he fits in at Syracuse.
"Really I just want to feel comfortable around the whole coaching staff and players, so I can make sure I fit in," Peterman said. "Like I said just being real comfortable around the coaches because the only person I have talked to is Coach Shafer. I would like to meet the head coach and the rest of the coaches."
Rivals.com lists Peterman as a cornerback and that position is where the Orange want him to stay.
"Coach Shafer talked with me about playing cornerback,"
What makes the Ohio product a top cornerback product?
"I think definitely my jumping ability, my ability to go get the ball. A lot of guys don't have that skill and I think that is definitely a positive for me."
Other than Syracuse two other schools are on the short remaining list of schools who have a chance to land the Ohio product.
"Right now it is Wisconsin and definitely Akron because it is close to home. They [Akron] are talking about a lot of playing time for me early. Really I just narrowed it down to these three [Syracuse, Wisconsin, and Akron] here."
If Peterman leaves Syracuse without making a commitment when will the defensive back make his choice?
"I would say probably a little bit before signing day."
