Four-star corner makes final decision
Following an official visit to Oklahoma the weekend before National Signing Day, rumors surfaced that four-star cornerback Demontre Hurst had decommitted from Oklahoma State and committed to Oklahoma. Following the trip, Hurst went silent but on the eve of Signing Day he cleared the air as to his status.
"It looks like I'm going to go with OU," Hurst said on Tuesday night. "I'm signing with Oklahoma tomorrow."
After being committed to Oklahoma State for some time, Hurst thought the recruiting process was over with but some recent interest from the Sooners forced him to consider one last option.
"OU was a dream school for me," he said. "I've been liking them since I've been growing up. For me to have the opportunity to go to school there it was special. I took a visit to the school and I loved it and liked the players there so it was good for me. Hopefully it will be good for them."
Lack of depth at defensive back was a concern with the Oklahoma coaching staff and it looked to Hurst to answer that concern. With the ability to play safety or corner, Hurst has the answer in more ways than one.
"They said that they're thin and they need corners and everything and I was kind of versatile cause I can play corner or safety. Anywhere they put me on the field I can be productive. They said they were thin and I was open so I'm ready to go make plays."
Following his visit and commitment over the weekend, Hurst shut down from the media but he had a good reason for doing so.
"I was just making sure that this is where I want to be and just that this is the right decision for me," he said. "I was just trying to tell Oklahoma State with class that I decided to go in a different direction rather than just not telling them anything. I was informing them and getting my head on straight and trying not to be too stressful."
Now that the talented defensive back is firmly finished with recruiting, he feels good about the future.
"I feel great man, it was a good feeling. I thought recruiting was over once I committed to Oklahoma State and then Oklahoma came I was like, 'man, I gotta go through this again.' Then tomorrow I'm signing the papers and then I don't have to worry about anything but graduating."
