Neal talks safety
The nature of college football is never having the same roster one year to the next. For the Oregon Ducks, one of the key players graduating is safety Patrick Chung Duck Sports Authority caught up with defensive backs coach John Neal to get his take on who might fill that role.
Replacing a four-year starter like safety Patrick Chung is never an easy task. Coach Neal identified the two players who will vie for Chung's role.
"Going into spring two of the competitors for Pat's position will be Javes Lewis and Marvin Johnson," Coach Neal informed DSA. 6'1", 185 pound sophomore Lewis played both running back and safety in high school, while 5'11", 199 pound junior Johnson starred at quarterback and defensive back.
Following an encouraging redshirt freshman year in 2007, Johnson was hampered last season by a nagging injury.
